Thanks for the link, John. The old Shimano screw-on freewheel remover
tool is apparently different. It takes an FR-1 remover tool.

Right, unless someone has bodged a 9s freewheel together. Highly
unlikely, though.

I've undone Shimano cassette lock rings with the freewheel tool. I
don't see why it wouldn't work on a SRAM as well. Maybe give it a try
if you already have the freewheel tool.
