Absolutely none of the X.* series is Shimano compatible. If you don't
like their trigger shifters, use their Grip Shift. I think there
trigger action is superior to Shimano's but it is very much a personal
matter. Shimano's stuff works just fine too. Remember, Shimano doesn't
support the 1:1 derailleurs any more than SRAM ESP or X.* series
supports Shimano. At least with SRAM you can still get attack series
shifters for Shimano rear derailleurs.

I pretty much agree. A swap-out is expensive at the X.9 or X.0 level.
You can find X.7 pretty inexpensively and it is frankly functionally
as good.

BTW, it shifts best when nice and clean :-)

My intention is to use it with Goretex or some other sealed cables thus keeping it clean?
