I have a SRAM PG970 cassette on my wheel and got a 2nd rear wheel, so bought a SRAM PG980 cassette.

The PG980 looks nothing like the PG970 - the latter mounts on the splines of my freehubs but the PG980 has a smooth center cone that rotates separately from the body.

Is this just some packaging thing, or is the PG980 freehub mounting so different from the PG970?

The PG980 came with a black plastic disc under the lockring and I can't figure out how to take the lockring off. Wherever I put the chainwhip, turning the lockring just makes another set of cogs spin - I can't turn it off.

Boy - do I feel stupid, but this cassette comes different than any I've bought.

Oh duh, just insert lockring tool and pound, and all the black plastic mount drops out.

Sorry about that

Don't feel bad. We all have these moments, but at least you caught yours before anyone else pointred it out to you. The bad thing is that these moments become more frequent as we get older!
