STAGE 21: Créteil -> Paris Champs-Élysées - 95 km It has been the tradition since 1975 for the Tour de France to end with a prestigious stage finish on the Champs-Élysées. At the start in Créteil, we will remember Laurent Fignon, who held a licence with the local club. In 1989, his duel with Greg LeMond maintained the suspense right to the finish, where Fignon was sure that he would be the winner.

Quieting critics, Evans eyes first Aussie Tour win Silencing his doubters once and for all, Cadel Evans will now be wearing the prized Tour de France leader's yellow jersey on the Champs-Elysees. The two-time runner-up locked up Australia's first victory in cycling's greatest race on Saturday by overcoming Luxembourg's Andy Schleck in the final time trial. http://www.seattlepi.com/sports/article/Quieting-critics-Evans-eyes-first-Aussie-Tour-win-1538411.php Cadel Evans to become first Australian to win the Tour de France AN EMOTIONAL Cadel Evans has paid tribute to his late coach Aldo Sassi after setting himself up for victory in this year's Tour de France. A spluttering Evans could not fight back the tears as he revealed it was Sassi, who died last December after losing his battle with brain cancer, that inspired him to his likely win - the first by an Australian in the great race. "He said to me at one point last year, 'I hope for you. I'm sure you can win the Grand Tour. I hope for you it is the Tour de France, because that's the biggest and most prestigious tour. If you do that, you will become the most complete rider of your generation'," Evans said. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/tour-de-france/cadel-evans-to-become-first-australian-to-win-the-tour-de-france/story-fn8s9i81-1226100674840
Contador feels accumulated fatigue in final time trial A solid outing in the Grenoble time trial on Saturday saw Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Sungard) move up to 5th overall at the Tour de France, but the Spaniard admitted that he had paid for his efforts on the road to l’Alpe d’Huez the previous day. “I did a good time trial,” Contador told AS. “I felt good, although I noticed the accumulated fatigue on the rollers [while warming up.]" http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/contador-feels-accumulated-fatigue-in-final-time-trial 2011 Tour de France the cleanest in recent years? At the end of this year's Tour de France, many observers and anti-doping experts have drawn positive conclusions about the race's credibility. The statistics with regard to the decisive mountain stages indicate less explosive performances than in previous years, while riders have appeared to cross the finish line in more obvious states of fatigue than in the recent past. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2011-tour-de-france-the-cleanest-in-recent-years

Cav will be hard to beat today, I'd like to see either Gilbert or Cancellara give it a crack!

    Agreed.
A jump out of tunnel in Vinokourov's style would be great.

It's first Tour in several years without Cancellara's stage victory (so far).

is it too early for discussion of the tour's biggest winners/losers? i'm tipping europcar for biggest winners with their gutty days in yellow and the maillot blanc, while giving goat horns and a patient wait for the postmortems to radioshack.

big chapeau to garmin cervelo for bringing the dz cutout to the podium.
