Tesco's tonight had the Silverado, Classic and Vegetarian versions. I got
one of each for taste testing purposes along with Tesco own brands of
Chicken Tikka Masala and a Chilli con Carne.

Must be a bigger version of TESCO than our local - they didn't have any
    at all!

Yours must be a Metro type place then, I thought my Tesco was as small as
    they get these days!

No - but it is a good idea to fish out the whole chillis.

Spoilsport. I'm not sure a whole chilli will do much, compared to a
chopped-up one. The outer skin is waxy and relatively impermeable. Isn't
most of the heat in the oils which would struggle to leach out ?

[I once munched a whole chilli in a bowl of Chinese something or other,
mistaking it for a piece of red pepper in the dim light. I think the
resulting glow from my face brightened the whole place up enough to stop
others making the same mistake. Of course, there are chillis and chillis.
Murphy's Pakora Bar in Glasgow's West End used to deep-fry milder ones,
which was endlessly amusing for those not in the know.]

I once did a competitive pub crawl which had challenges for extra
points. I chose to complete the "eat a whole chilli pepper in the
fastest time" challenge. I won. Gulp, swallow, gone. I felt fine
until the next morning .... when I felt very very ill. Perhaps I
hadn't drunk enough beer to dilute it?
