  1. Hello. I'm interested in starting a Multisport club. Namely
with triathlon and duathlon athletes. Does anyone have any
knowledge in the area of initiating a club? If so please
provide advice, information, or resources. Thank you.

Do a google groups search covering the last 2-3 months. I
posted the same thing (looking to start one in Indy); I
didn't get much response, except that there was a similar
thread on slowtwitch.com, and a link to USAT, which has some
    info on starting a club.

    OK, I'll chime in...

If you do start one, make sure you have a plan to keep a
large percentage of the membership actively involved in the
administration (not just being on the board, but organizing
events, contributing to newsletters, promoting the club,
coming up with fresh ideas for events, etc.). We have a
great club with over 200 paying members, but are starting to
suffer because the 8 or so people who do all of the work are
beginning to burn out. There a a few club members who are
quick to complain if a newsletter come out late or it's been
awhile since a club event, but there seem to be very few
fresh faces willing to devote anything more than an annual
membership fee to making any improvements or changes. Since
we only charge $15 US for individual and $20 for family
memberships, it's a bit silly to expect the club to
magically run itself without member contributions of time
    and effort.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  4. Our 7year-old Multisport club is suffering the same fate as
Tom's---must be a common problem. (Actually I suspect that
one of the major problems is that mustisport training takes
so much time and energy that most of the members don't have
any left to devote to running a club. But they still want
events to happen, the website to be updated, the newsletter
to magically appear in their mailboxes, etc.)
