I thought he looked pretty good today. And 6th overall in a grand tour
is not bad placing.

If the sport were totally clean, might he be wining the Vuelta this year
(assuming that he's clean)?

Hooray, we have a new category of vitual GT winners, the "Virtual Clean
Winner vs. the Virtual Doped Rivers". I'm sure there are other
nominees, let's hear 'em!!

That is why Vino's performance in the mountains is so impressive. He's
just not built like the typical climbimg specialist - yet, he's there
with them.

I hope Vino wins the Giro and the TdF next year and I hope to God that
he is never "caught" doping.

Oh, for heaven's sake.

Vino has never been accused of anything. I can't find anything serious
linking Valverde to doping. Danielson rides for a team founded by a doping
specialist - the original blood doping specialist - for which most of the
big name dopers of the past ten years have ridden at some stage.

Danielson is a has-been who, at the height of his career, was a reasonable
domestique, and who had a flash in the pan today when Vino gifted him a
stage win. He may be clean; he may not be. I don't know. But there's no
reason to believe he's any cleaner than Vino or Valverde or Sastre, all of
whom can beat him nine days out of ten.

Wining the Vuelta ? Must be a LiveDrunk(tm) sponsored jersey.

That's an interesting comment. One would think one would have to have
been a "been" before becoming a "has been". In terms of top level stage
racing I think it more either "never been" or "not yet been."

But if he's doping I hope he does get caught.

Basso was never accused of anything before this year, either.

6th in Vuelta = 26th TdF. Still not bad, but let's be honest.

It was a good ride. And Jittery Joes was not racing there.

If he can ride well enough to establish credibility as a
a Grand Tour winner there is a spot for him in Europe.
Berzin rode like lunch meat for years but he always had
a contract because the number of people with even fading
Grand Tour credibility is so small.

Frankly I was watching the stage and thinking that Danielson's belly is
considerably bigger than mine - and I'm two stone overweight. If he could
go easier on the pies, he might become a tour contender.

Basso has never been shown to have taken anything. His adjourned hearing is
a fortnight today.

That's interesting. I've seen him in person when he trains in Tucson
and thought he was super skinny. And that is during winter training not
near the end of the euro racing season.

I got my doors blown off by him this spring and he's legit skinny. I
don't know why his viscera are so big.
