I have been intending to remove some Stronglight cranks (with a single
bolt circle on a triple) from a bike. However, when I remove the dustcap,
I find a threaded shaft with a hex nut on it. The latter is easily removed
without very much torque - not as much as I would normally expect to need
for a crank retaining bolt on a conventional setup.
Now I find myself looking at this shaft. I have a Stronglight crank
extractor, but it doesn't seem to fit into the recess in the crank;
however, I see from Sheldon's pages that TA went to normal 22mm in 1982,
so it doesn't seem impossible that these cranks are new enough to fit my
normal crank extractor, and it turns out to fit.
However, I'm a little wary, never having seen this threaded shaft plus nut
arrangement. Is the shaft protruding from the BB spindle? Do I just
proceeed as normal with the crank extractor?
