Hmmmm... That gives me an idea, thanks!
I quit making bread stuffing ages ago.
Now I make a brown and wild rice concoction instead,
using many of the same herbs and spices (including sage)
that one uses in bread dressing.

Some large cocktail shrimp would go well in there,
along with the usual sliced mushrooms. :-)

    Thanks for the concept!

Pecans are not gonna be a good substitute for shrimp. (If you can't put
shrimp in some of the dressing, maybe you can serve shrimp cocktail?)

Excellent point! And since we using dressing instead of stuffing,
it'll be easy to dump some shrimp into his. S'pose I should leave the
tails and shells on for textural interest?

Heresy, absolute heresy! Are you daring to post that you don't fix
canned green beans with canned "fried" onions on top?

It's a tradition for us to get those frozen green peas with the little
white onions. We never eat those any other time.

We've had asparagus soup a few times.

I like to make cauliflower with cheese sauce. It's not green, of
course, but it's good. I'm always blown away at the end of the meal to
see that there isn't any left. There are only five of us, and I do a
    whole head.

    The main

I know someone who rolls up dressing in tinfoil, and cooks it like
that. You can stuff your little foil packets into the spare corners in
    the oven.

A bonus is that the round dressing rolls, after refrigeration, slice
    up real nice for sandwiches.

We do have green food, too! Coleslaw, green beans, some crudite on

I've never had a dressing sandwich. And since my blood sugar

So, what do the rest of you do with the bread stuff you make for
Thanksgiving? (I'll just plug my ears when people start talking about
    corn bread or oysters) 😉

MMM ? Do you not eat cornbread at all? ? Yummy especially warm with honey and a
big plate of ribs and cole slaw... I really don't taste that much of a
difference cornbread or white bread stuffing/dressing wise. I found that the
corn bread version needed to be "wetter" to start to get the same level as white
bread based ones or it did tend to be a little drier.

I turned my nose at oyster stuffing for a long time as well, same with fruit
and/or nut versions. The oyster one is still a limited amount and I'm good, but
the fruit/nut versions I tend to prefer now.

I bake the dressing while the turkey rests, is carved and gravy is made.
By the time we're done with all that, the dressing is finished baking.

Thats sorta my position, I acquiesce to certain "family traditions" to keep the
peace. I am the black sheep of the bunch due to my work which makes holidays
just another day out there. Chicken rates right behind turkey in that I very
rarely cook it, and its just not on my food radar for eating, beef is my
    preferred meat of choice.

I allow turkey served this one time a year. I am going to do my full court press
again this year for duck for the december holiday meal v. another turkey or ham.
I will settle for some thing along the lines of a pork loin or something, and as
soon as I find a recipe for a cranberry orange marinated pork loin. An ad I saw
had one pre made, but I figure I can make better. I may just let them cook what
they want if its turkey or ham and make my own duck to go with the sides they
    make.

What size shrimp? ?? ? Hmmmm..... I kinda like the idea...... As long as the
shrimp were not too big and in good proportion I could probably go for this. May
have to experiment with a little batch.

OK, any one who wants to have a Stuffing/Dressing Buffet let me know so I can
