On the outskirts of Wigan is a place called 'Haigh Hall',
its not very exciting but you can cycle around there for an
hour or two.

If you're feeling more adventurous then the Forest of
Bowland offers some better riding, still on relatively un-
technical forest roads etc.

For Forest of Bowland read Guisburn Forest near Slaidburn in
the Ribble Valley.

Rivington Pike area will likely be too steep for you. Just
north of Leyland is a park area based around Cuerden Hall
I've not been there but I believe the paths are family
cycling friendly. Its just before M6 and M61 come together.
