just in the last couple of days, we have threads containing:

AWC
TSS
L3 L4 L5 L6 L7
training-stress balance of -59
FTP
FT (per mass^67)
RPE
meso cycle
macro cycle
micro cycle
SST
CTL
50tss/day CTL
OBLA

and, I guess the slightly more common and obvious:

base 1
base 2
build 1
build 2
VO2Max
MHR
LT
periodisation

etc.

:)

I get bamboozled by the commonly used terms of this 'training' forum & as suggested a 'sticky' of the general meanings may help simpletons like me.
Although, who do you trust to give correct descriptions?
It's killing me but..... can't get 'stickied' with over 1500 replies & 70000 views, so Oz, even though you stayed up till 4am Melbin time compiling this thread, you may be 'floggin a dead horse'.

Something that annoys me is long stickies with info all over the place. Wouldnt it be great if someone did put all the descriptions for each of those terms Aussie pointed out just like the following in one post...

MHR - Max heart rate
SST- Sweet spot training
FTP - Description
*** -
*** -

et cetera, et cetera....

It would make things so much easier. Or maybe the best way to do it is wait for loads of replies and then edit your post Aussie and use it as a master post so to speak.

actually, I think that's what i should've said -- just one of them posts where no replies can be added

In the interim, most of the power terminology is defined and discussed here http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/power411/.

The terms related to the forces acting on a cyclist are defined and discussed here http://www.analyticcycling.com/Glossary_Disc.html.

There is a good glossary of terms in Hunter Allen's and Andy Coggan's book, Training and Racing with a Power Meter.

And there is a good glossary of terms at the Midweek Club site http://www.midweekclub.ca/articles/.
But, I agree that there is a need for a web-based consolidated glossary of terms related to cycling training and the related physiology.

Well while we are it, can someone give me the translation for the following abbreviations? (I do not need definitions, just need help figuring out the abbreviations:

FTP, TSS, LSD, FT, CTL, PMC, TRIMP, OBLA, AWC, AC?

FTP, FT - Functional Threshold Power or Functional Threshold = max sustainable average power for 60 minutes (AKA 60MP)
TSS, TRIMP - http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/power411/defined.asp
CTL, PMC - http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/power411/howtoperformancemanager.asp
AWC, AC http://www.velo-fit.com/articles/critical-power.pdf
OBLA - Onset of Blood Lactate Accumulation (blood lactate concentration of 4 millimoles per liter)
LSD - Long Slow Distance

Great idea, I'll get a sticky post up in the next couple of days.

cheers

as credit agro said, we probably only need one of those one post threads with all the info, to which no-one can reply

by the way, this training sub-forum craps all over "the other" forum's similar section
