I’m trying to build support for a petition against increasing the motorway speed limit to 80mph. I feel this sends the wrong signal to everyone, the govt should be encouraging more cycling, walking and use of public transport, not encouraging more inefficient and dangerous driving. In my view, the limit should stay at 70mph and be enforced; analysis of DfT figures shows that increasing the limit would lead to 25 more deaths and 100 more serious injuries as well as needlessly pumping more C02 into the atmosphere.
