Sydney Commuters Beware

To all commuters using Shared Path route Anzac Pde / Allison Road.

Over the last week the goblins have installed not one but six bollards on the Eastern side of the Bus Lane crossing at the Allison Road end of the Shared Path.

The Bollards hav been installed to prevent access to ANZAC for spectators etc trying to beat the traffic after major events either at the SFS, SCG or Fox. What they have achieved is a deadly trap for cyclists, as they are blind when approached from the Allison Road stretch of the path, and they have to be negotiated at a walking pace. They are too close together to negotiate faster, as they are at the apex of the turning point, requiring an almost 90 degree turn, due to their positioning, rather than a sweep through if there are no pedestrians or other commuters present.

Have watched the progress of these things turning up for the last couple of days, and am amazed at the stupidity of overkill here. One or two strategically placed bollards on the curb away from the bike path would have achieved the same effect, ie stopped cars from jumping the gutter and detouring to ANZAC via the bike path and the bus-only slip road.

I believe from observation that this area is the responsibility of Centennial Park.

Any other observations out there?

Meantime stay safe.
