I have not posted in several months (been training). I completed the 206 mi ride from seattle to portland. This year was the first time I had rode over 60mi. thanks for all the training and equpment info. When the guy who talked me into this quit on me way back in march I was lost as to how to train for this ride I'm greatful I stumbled upon this site and everyone who makes it happen.

So here is the success story-I completed the 206 mi ride in one day with a 20.1 mph ave and actually felt slightly better than the first time I rode a century this year!!!

Wow...impressive, a smoking average speed! Care to provide a brief outline of your (very successful) training program?

That's amazing. I haven't done more than 70 miles a day @ 18.5 mph. What is your secret?

Congratulations on your ride! I worked at the STP Finish Line this year, but I'm planning on riding next year. Seeing all of you one-day riders come in just motivated me to start riding again.

I'm glad I found this forum for advice-- if it worked for you, I hope it'll work for me.

I started training in Dec. I started by doing a 26 mile loop that has a lot of hills so I was inadvertantly doing a lot of interval training. Then from the advice on the board and the recommended milage on the STP website, I developed a training routine that followed the STP website very closely. Here is a copy of what they recommended on the website.
Week of: Weekly Goal Midweek Sat Sun
March 1 - 7 50 20 20 10
March 8 - 14 60 20 30 10
March 15 - 21 80 20 40 20
March 22 - 28 70 20 30 20
March 29 -April 4 90 30 50 10
April 5 - 11 110 20 70 20
April 12 - 18 110 30 50 30
April 19 - 25 130 40 70 20
April 26 - May 2 120 20 80 20
May 6 - 9 140 40 70 30
May 10 - 16 190 50 80 60
May 17 - 23 160 50 90 20
May 24 - 30 160 30 80 40
May 31-June 6 180 40 90 50
June 7 - 13 190 50 110 30
June 14 - 20 200 30 140 20
June 21 - 27 210 40 *100 50
June 28 - July 4 150 30 80 40
July 5 - 11 120 40 60 20
July 12 - 18 230 20,10 200 0

I had to take a break for a week because I got sick from over training. And I took the last week and a half off to give my knees a rest. (was getting tendonitis)

I spend about 10 minutes trying to put spaces between the milage. Sorry it didn't work. Hopefully you can figure it out!

Hi I also did STP in one day. I started at exactly 4:45am :D (right on time). My average speed was 20.2 and according to my hubby and kids was the first lady home (apart from one on a tandem) This is of course un-official but it's nice to hear my family thinks I did that well. Maybe they wore blinkers and didn't see the other ladies ride in!
On to RAMROD next year. I just love climbing the mountains here.
