Picked my bike up from its first service & replacement puncture resistant
tyres (3 punctures in 300 miles on the originals!) earlier. Bike in the back
of the estate to get it home, front wheel just behind the driver's seat.
5 mins down the road - fortunately stopped at traffic lights - a bomb goes
off!
When I stop seeing stars and the ringing begins to subside, I work out the
the "bomb" was in fact the front tyre about 1 foot from my ear! Tyre hanging
off and tube shredded! back to the bike shop for a new tube!
Bike, btw, is Specialized Tricross Sport as discussed here when I asked a
few weeks ago. Very enjoyable machine and boy what a difference from an MTB.
I went out on the MTB the other day (Marin Nail Trail) and was astonished
how sluggish it felt on the road in comparison.
This years version has mini-vee brakes instead of cantis which should have
solved the front fork judder problem
