A flurry of mentions this week in the media for our Highway Code campaign, The Sunday Times quotes CTC’s Roger Geffen on the proposed changes to the Code and at the other end of the broadsheet spectrum, the Guardian’s Matt Seaton shares his experience last weekend of a motorist shouting at him to get in the bike lane and off the road. He is right to suspect we have all been there. Thanks for your emails about poor cycle facilities and stories of driver abuse. We’ve been so inundated that we cannot respond to them all individually, but they have been very useful in conversations with officials in the Department for Transport. Liberal Democrat MPs have now tabled an Early Day Motion which calls for the Highway Code to be withdrawn and the cycling clauses re-written. We are still talking to the DfT, and there are signs that they are listening, but the clock is ticking…
Also, at long long long long long last there's something on the web site. They've even put it on the front page. Apparently it might be a good idea to write to your MP - gosh, now why didn't we think of that? I can see why they were quiet for so long, must take lots of effort to get such a finely-tuned plan hammered out.
