i'm pretty sure that most spaniards, basques esp., don't care about the vuelta that much. they see it for what it is, and that is 2 GT's less prestigious than the tdf.

He was second in 1991 when the vuelta was run in April. Three months later he won the Tour de France for the first time.

During his whole carreer (12 years), Indurain always rode two Grand Tours per year (either Vuelta-Tour or Giro-Tour) except in 1995 when he only participated in the Tour and still won the TT World Champion later in the season.
