I usualy post in the commute forum but I thought I would share this with everyone. I had an encounter with a gentleman I will call The $50 Man. I came around a corner of the shared pedestrain/cycle track to see a bloke shouting out at some bemused skateboarders who were messing around in a near by carpark that is rarely used by cars and is actually quite good for them. Then he spots me and shouts 'AND HERE'S ANOTHER ONE" I had to pass him and as I got closer he shouted "have you seen my fifty dollars?"
I decided by his tone that he was basically being sarcastic and or hostile so I got off the bike and went up to him. "What do you want?" I asked. Sarcastically he repeats "have you seen my fifty dollars?" He was a little taken aback that I had got off my bike and began walking around me and away but I asked him "have I seen your fifty dollars?" "Yeah well YOU cyclists cycle EVERYWHERE so you may find it". So I said "OK Mate I will keep an eye out for your fifty dollars". I hopped back on and as I was cycling off he said "And if you find it IT WILL BE PAYBACK TIME!!!!" 😕
Yestaday another man hurled abuse 'cuse I happened to cross a small patch of grass rather go to close to him on the same section of path/track. I thought I was being considerate.
And I think some youths spat at me but I was far from certain at this.
I can never understand the hatred that some people have for cyclists. I have never seen horse riders get this sort of abuse. Anyone got any tales they want to share?
