I'm seeing a black background with beige type that lacks contrast.

You're lucky. It's not worth reading. OK, it was a little funny for the

My vision isn't great and it's hard to read.

But I've got the Opera web browser and can turn off the colors and
just get a clear black/white site easily, which is nice.
