But how do you tie that in with the general perception that S-L are a predominantly Belgian focussed classics team?

Wouldn't they be better off letting Evans go to another team and basically forgetting about any GC aspirations?

well, they have indicated they want to keep him, they need to add more riders if so.

Their hilly classics sqaud could be built up. They have Philippe Gilbert, so add him potentially to the 9, although they have said he will ride the Giro or Vuelta, and not the Tour. Sort of a Bettini program. They must figure he is better stage hunting than working for Evans.

I think he might come around, and be brought into the 9.

    A team of

    Tjallingii
    Hoste
    Vansummeren
    Van Huffel
    Gilbert
    Lloyd
    Vandenbroeck
    Rogers
    Evans

that would be a decent team.

I think Hitchy is too much of a risk if Stuey gets brought down in these Basso/CSC revelations... [IMG]

He said he'd quit cycling (including coaching) if O'Grady turns out to be a doper.

Anyway, I can't believe Evans lost. I really thought he had it in the bag; I guess that shows my igggorance, and/or naivety.

The worst thing was, I had to watch it at last night's gig (between sets) at the Cross Keys Hotel (next to where Jason Moran was killed), with some total fuckin hillbilly from Broad Meadows ear-bashing all night about how he'd just got out of jail, and that his dad used to race pushies at Broadford!! :p

Tjallingi is going to Rabobank next year. To ride a very B program no doubt too.

i heard some question marks over Van Huffel on belgian tv the other night. Dunno what his contract is like but he's not happy. Perhaps a smaller belgian team, located near a Trappist brewery is the best option for him.

That's a pretty good team but they need a higher calibre owner/manager than Redant and a DS with a higher education than Diploma of Turnip Cultivation from Kortijk TAFE.

    That was mine.
Can't have beebs being blamed for my stupidity.
I couldn't believe that ride. I would have put houses on Cadel being within 20 seconds either way.

LOL. Don't knock it. You are giving the average Belgian ex-pro too much credit on the education front, plus they've had some really gun turnip growers come out of that esteemed tertiary education facility.

BTW, wasn't CSC Turnip Factory a Belgian 'House' band in the early 90's? I wondered where Riis got the team name from.
