The Thread about Nothing....

Thanks. Do you reckon Steward was any good?

He would show up on the Hell Ride occasionally. This was early/mid 90's when I thought I was sh!t hot, having just gone into B grade. He was fairly unassuming but could tear legs off at will.

I never saw him on that Alan, but I do remember once he was on a yellow and blue "Repco", lugged 753 with Ultegra 8spd STI.

Well, I never knew there were such things as padded bikinis

Fuggin oath. The man was a beast. Strong as an ox. Olympian in 88.

I scored a ride in a pro open once when I was amateur and was trying to cross to a break on one of the stages. Everyone is lined out. I get off the front of the main group and am going flat chat, so hard I would have breathed through my ears if I could, even managing to blow away a few 'name' riders who were in front of me trying to do the same.. Steward rides up to my wheel and says as casual as you like 'come on mate, we are nearly across, keep going, you are going well'. I'm tasting bile and seeing black spots and this bloke is having a friendly encouraging chat with me. Cnut. :D

Footscray mate... back then (rolls eyes in disgust as he starts channeling grandpa) you were "politely escorted off the course" if you couldn't ride proper-like. You learned or you p!ssed off.

These days even the sports institutes don't teach their kids how to handle their bikes.

Ya just jealous that an unco like me with no cycling heritage or track background can even make it into an institute:p

Nah, just takin' the p!ss. Once the novelty of the suffering wore off I quickly worked out that I didn't have any talent to speak of.

Gippsland...50k road stages!

Yeah, was a bit of a joke. The average club three day tour has longer days. Some hard courses, but not enough distance. Split stages suck balls too.

Not wishing to be too Sydney centric but I am really ****** off about another death on Southern Cross drive caused by idiot drivers in a hurry:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

LOL. Don't you hate it when that happens. He didn't coast back on sit on your wheel for a bit longer did he, just to rub salt in the wounds?

Just had a thing about "should bikes be banned on major roads" on Sunrise.

Surprisingly, they seemed to come down on the "everyone should be more tolerant" side of the argument

Fairless came down with Lynchy and the other Repco blokes to ride a Gippsland race one year. The old man totally spanked Fairless in the sprint, even after he had worked his ar5e off chasing the break for 30km and Fairless had tried to take a sling off him at the finish.:D
