Well, he lives in Cambridge. Where someone who never, ever cycles is in
something of a minority...

And the single "have your say" comment puts it into perspective - I'd say.

I was interested to see this letter in the same edition as the Comment
piece on cycling. Cycling gives you extra life, keeps you fit and
active, saves money on transport , and stops you getting fat. Its as
convenient as a car for most journeys and helps to reduce pollution so
it saves the planet as well. Cycling makes you feel better as well both
physically and mentally. It could be a panacea for all our ills. The
problem is that the vast majority do not want cyclists to be right and
its always difficult for the person who is proved to be right. In this
country the person who turns out to be right is expected to apologise
for being so. Not me. I am just happy to stay alive for longer and watch
my contemporaries fall off the twig at appallingly young ages. I am an
eco-warrior and proud to be so. Keep taking the mickey all you fatties
and i'll have the last laugh."

Brian Dalton, Purley,

Strange you agreeing with a comment like the above.

Why?

Although the "single comment" does seem to change periodically. Just
now it was: "Yesterday's front page of The Times newspaper read, “Man
held over letter bombings is a cyclist” did make me think. It made me
realise why it is I stopped buying The Times - thank you"

Errr... a real bomb WAS planted in panniers, in Brighton.

I once left my bike locked in the centre of Coventry while I did a bit
of shopping. On my return I found a couple of concerned-looking
squaddies observing it from a distance - turns out they were running a
recruiting day and I'd parked behind their mobile exhibition thingy.
The look of relief on their faces as I unlocked it and rode away was
something to behold. :)

Rather more than one bomb has been planted in motor vehicles.
However, the mass media don't paint as motorists as "terrorists".

Having read The Times article I am shocked and would like to apologise
on behalf of all cyclists.

Next week in the same paper:

"LORRY DRIVERS. WHY DO THEY KEEP KILLING PROSTITUTES WITH HAMMERS?"
