If someone had foolishly^W hypothetically bought a set of V-brakes on eBay and now found that they would fit the bike much better with a thinner set of washers between the brake block and the bit of the lever it bolts through, is there any answer other than just use a flat washer or grind down the spherical washers it comes with a bit?
(The flat washer actually seems to align it fairly well, but it would be nice to have a bit of adjustment possible. Having the standard washer in place also works (with a slghtly longer cable), but leaves the levers rather splayed out at their top end.)

I usually find that each set of V-brakes comes with thick and thin spherical washers, thick inboard and thin outboard. They can be swapped. Is this not the case with yours?

I usually find that each set of V-brakes comes with thick and thin spherical washers, thick inboard and thin outboard. They can be swapped. Is this not the case with yours?
Yes, but what I want is something thinner than the standard thin ones.

Ah. Last time I found that, I discovered it was because the washers were tight on the brake shoe posts - once I'd "assisted" them on the problem went away.

Ah. Last time I found that, I discovered it was because the washers were tight on the brake shoe posts - once I'd "assisted" them on the problem went away.
The Kool Stops on my old (Promax) brakes were like that, but the new (XT) arms really seem to be designed for a fork with studs slightly further apart than my hybrid. (Though, as I said, they do work ok as is.)
