What I don't like is when someone starts a religious thread and never bothers to come back to answer questions/critics, as if their post is "filling their mission to spread the gospel", when in actuality, it just annoys everyone, even people who fall under the religion of christianity.

In the past I may have been one of the christians who face the aftermath of these people, trying to excuse parts of the faith, try to make people see what being a true christian is all about, . . . . . . .but today I don't. I've been de-brainwashed by people like Michael Wong and others who used logic where good christians don't expect it. And while I still profess christianity, it is no longer the conservative fundamentalism that it once was. Some aspects of my faith are now moderate, . . . . . .some parts even liberal. It's been quite an interesting several months on this journey.

you might be surprised, a recent issue of time magazine showed a map of the states in the us that have started initiatives to teach creationism, breaking it down by how many have not, how many have at a school district level, and/or how many at a legislative level.
the number suggests to me the us is far from realizing the concept of the seperation of church and state apply to the schools as well as government...
as for metaphorical merit, this belongs in the comparitive religion class and not science.

Creatonism is now displacing evolution as the principal theory taught in American schools. My own theory is that, with the fall of communism, peoples and governments are now turning back to religion. It may well even be the case we could slip back into a Dark Age (such as the period between 500 A.D. to the recent industrial revolution).
It may well be the case that the U.S. will become a Christian theocracy while England and Europe become principally Islamic.

I'm reading an interesting book that gives information about the world religions and the schisms that derived from them.
Now here is an interesting point about Christianity. Do you know there are Christians who believe in the Trinity, those who believe Jesus was inferior to God, those who believe Mary was divine, those who believe the Bible shouldn't be taken in a literal sense while others believe it's inspired writing?
Standard Christian doctrine was only actually put together some 200 years after Jesus was crucified and many Christians believe what Jesus actually taught differs from the official Church line.
    Islam also has many schisms.
The toughest one I figured would be Krishna conscious. That one is tough. Basically you have 109 beads and have to chant the Krishna mantra for each bead. So, every time you slide a bead you're supposed to chant:
Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
The whole process takes 2 hours!

Better still, invite them in and steer them towards the bedroom while divesting yourself of all clothing.Tell them how pleased you are that the escort agency finally found someone who shares your particular interests (insert fetish here..................).
    Won't see'em for the dust.

Or you might get lucky and have something to tell your grandchildren about, next time you see them!

i dunno, when i lived in santa cruz we shared a duplex that was set back from the street, the witnesses would have to come around an alley corner and approach the door, open more often than not. they would stride confidently right up and proceed with the pitch.

my housemate had an old dial phone that he took out frustrations on at this time, it proved to be able to withstand considerable abusive treatment.

this phone met it's demise upon being set alight and the charred remains were subsquently spray painted red in a haphazard manner. this was then displayed upon an improvised wooden cross styling. the display was placed then in the walkway to the door, out of sight from the street but visible from the door as a kind of art installation, i guess.

one day, sitting on the couch playing a stereo lp record at too loud a volume to retain fidelity, probably quicksilver messenger service's "what about me?" for all i can remember, the witnesses strode up, but on gazing upon said installation took pause. they leaned toward one another, conversing in hushed tones, and then evidently decided they would yet approach undaunted.

moral is, sometimes the best you can do is make 'em pause and consider reality from a different perspective, if only momentarily.

What do you get when you cross a Jehovah'sWitness and a Hell's Angel?

Someone who rings your doorbell at 5am on a Sunday morning and tells you to F*CK OFF ;)

    Dave:
I have actually heard of people doing that. It usually results in a more heated debate and fortifies their resolve to save you.
Now if you go to the door with a butcher knife in hand with a wild look and rant about the lousy preacher that ran off with your wife.
    You get a different reaction.

Their visit's are a "gift from god" in the sense that you get to try out your latest prank. Let's face it, everyone has access to thier info., so why do they force it on us at our doorstep

I have my theories ,however I'll bet if you ask one of them they will more than happy to explain and elaborate.
Of course for your sanity I would not recommend it.

Yes I can speak first hand to the first... when I was in my late teens I actually did this to a Jehovah witness... problem was they (two of them) saw right through a cocky teen trying to have a little fun with them, and it did nothing but strengthen their resolve. I do not remember a heated debate as I did not have any conviction to profess satan as my master after the jig was up, but I do think it would have been better to go with huskey's version.

You've totally exploded by conception of you. I thought you were a Satan worshiper.

    Just kidding. :D

Satanism is a biblical belief regardless. The idea of good and evil is a biblical one and the Devil appears in the Gospels.
Now Wicca is more of a pagan religion originating from druidism.

The concept of good vs evil is universal and pre-dates Christianity. The Sumarians had their gods and their demons.

Wiccans don't believe in a devil, as I recall. Seems to be a pretty harmonious belief system, for the most part.

True, professing a belief in one presupposes the belief in its antithesis. I, as an non-believer, profess evolutionary theory & consequentally temporal matters.
