Tiger only won one stage, just like Lance (currently)

Why did Tiger Woods win the British Open when he didn't have the
lowest score each day? (or to put it another way - why is Lance
leading when he has only one stage win - TTT?)

Round 2
David Frost - 65
Tiger Woods - 67

Round 3
Soren Hanson - 66
Tiger Woods - 71

Round 4
Graeme McDowell - 67
Tiger Woods - 70

Tour De France / British Open - you don't need to "win" each day to
take the overall title.
