Hello All

I brought my mtb in the other day to get a new Cassette and chain (wore my old ones out). After some time the shop mechanic had done a great job on my bike replacing the cassette and chain and even went a step further and re-aligned my derailleur and disc breaks. He only charged me for the work on the cassette and chain. $60 total charge. I ride my bike EVERY DAY at least 25 miles so it gets a good bit of wear on it quickly. I was very impressed with how well it shifted and went back later that week and gave the mechanic a $20 and told him thank you.

Is this a normal thing for most people to tip the bike repair guy?

Most places I've lived tips like that take the form of a good six pack of beer, and no it's not unusual if they do great work and go above and beyond.

+1. If the shop goes the extra mile--rushing something to help you out, doing something gratis, or doing any number of helpful things that LBS don't have to do or don't normally do--a six or twelve pack of beer is in order.

i am loyal to good shops and give them accesories or even frames which i don't use or that i upgrade, or sell to them cheaply.
