Following Friday’s finish on Velefique and Saturday's finish on Sierra Nevada,, the third consecutive mountain stage sees another Special Category finish: La Pandera. The 14th stage of the Vuelta starts in Granada and finishes on the summit of Sierra La Pandera.
After two days that will require maximum effort of the riders, the organizers have intelligently decided on a shorter stage in order to encourage further efforts from the riders, who bodies are sure to be feeling the after-effects of so much climbing. Nevertheless, the finish in Madrid is drawing closer and the remaining opportunities for victory are not to be overlooked. The stage, which includes the 2nd category climb of Los Villares and the Special category La Pandera, situated one after another in the final 24 kilometres, will be spectacular. La Pandera is an 8.4 kilometre climb at an average gradient of 8% and stretches of up to 13%:
Previous editions: Granada has hosted 23 stage starts in the past. La Sierra de La Pandera has a much shorter, although equally intense, history, having been the scene of four stage finishes in the last eight years. Previous Winners: Roberto Heras, Alejandro Valverde and Andrei Kashechkin.
