I have just fixed up an old bike and just got into cycling. I don't really where to start in regards to training. I am in fairly good shape, I used to play soccer and still run and lift on a fairly regualar basis.

If you are just starting out, just ride! Just make sure that your bike is properly fitted and comfortable.

For starters, just get out and ride. Get used to the bike, explore and enjoy different routes and have fun. When you want some more structure try some longer (20-30 minute) efforts that make you breathe deeply but don't completely kill you. Do that on some days and just enjoy being on the bike other days and you're off to a good start.

While your'e doing all this get a copy of: http://www.amazon.com/Training-Racing-Power-Meter-Hunter/dp/1931382794
even if you don't spring for a PM the info on training levels and energy systems is real useful as are some of the example workouts for the different levels. It also pays to surf these forums and make sure you read the early pages of this thread: http://www.cyclingforums.com/t-314849-15-1.html

Good luck and keep the rubber side down....
