  1. I just did a quick scan through about three dozen of the much larger list
    of responses.

    Never, on any newsgroup, have I seen such a high frequency and wide
    variation of scientific ignorance as in this thread!

    Just one or two of the most hilarious and or deadly expressions of
    ignorance (Note, not necessarily stupidity [lack of intelligence] but
    either that or gross ignorance [lack of education]):

    Hydrogen included in a list of metals. Other non-metals were also there,
    but they were at least solid at room temperature.

    Mercury described as non toxic and harmless to the human body.

    and, less obvious, Aluminum being described as safe because it forms an
    impervious oxide layer on the surface as soon as it is exposed to air. (It
    does, but various chemicals remove this layer - **probably** including
    several foods and even body chemicals.)

    I could go on but I did not / do not have the time to waste on such an
    extreme display of assorted ignorance.
