  1. Tomorrow, we're having a surprise birthday party for my wife (she
doesn't read Usenet). Some of the guests are vegetarians. We're
doing snacks and games at 1, and then dinner at 6.

    Snacks:

Chips and crackers with onion dip, hot crab dip, and hummus --
probably also some kind of vegetables to dip
    Soda, coffee, tea, etc.
    Cashew roca
Mixed nuts (no peanuts -- peanuts are yucky. :-)

    Dinner:

Spaghetti (two sauces, one with beef and Italian sausage, one
    vegetarian)
Steamed broccoli or roasted asparagus, depending on which is on sale
    Garlic bread
"Caesar" salad (I use jarred dressing and add parmesan, garlic, and
anchovies, but I'll leave the fish out for half of the salad)

And I'm gonna bake a cake, but I don't know what kind yet. I bought a
storebought tiramisu for the decoy cake today (today's her real
    birthday, so I don't think she'll expect tomorrow's party).

  2. How will you do all the cooking tomorrow with her knowing? Maybe a
girlfriend of hers will take her out for the morning!
    Enjoy it, sounds fun.
    Cheers

She and James are going to a concert in the morning. They'll be home
    around 1, and I can do last-minute stuff while they're gone. I'm
making the spaghetti sauce now, but that's no big deal, because I
always cook on the weekends, so it's not unusual for me to cook a big
batch of something on a Saturday.

I hid the obvious party foods (chips, soda, other stuff we don't
normally keep in the house) in the trunk of the car. :-)
