Is it possible for the eyes to be exposed to too much light
(ordinary visible light, not ultra-violet)? If so, what
symptoms might you expect?
Best wishes,
Graeme

Yes, but it is improbable. Most sources of very bright light
are also rich in ultraviolet and/or infrared (the sun, arc
welders, glass furnaces, etc.), and these produce symptoms
before the visible light does. UV light produces painful
inflammation of the cornea with temporary or permanent
vision impairment. Infrared can produce cataracts. Any light
that reaches the retina can produce retinal burns as well.
Snow blindness is a common example of overexposure to light.

Pain, tears, inflammation, redness, impaired vision.
What circumstances do you have in mind?
