Personally I cannot see how any valid all time list could exclude : Peter Cook, Spike Milligan.
And as for Tommy Cooper only being listed at 53 - that is a travesty.

And where the bleep is Phillis Diller who's jokes are in the Smithsonian? and Carol Burnett? and Red Skelton? and..and...Some of those bums that need there mouths washed out with a bar of soap wouldn't make a pimple on the **** of the greats that made millions laugh every week..

And why is Woody Allen even listed?? or Robin Williams for that matter.
Robin Williams used to be funny--when he was on coke. Now I would rather castrate myself with a rusty fork than watch one of his movies. Woody Allen was never funny; he merely rose to somewhat amusing, and he only got that far in his movies from the 60s and early 70s. Now he is just annoying.

I think George Carlin is getting seriously robbed here.

Tommy Cooper?? Brilliant!! I agree....

My faves, in no particular order, are Steve Coogan, Ross Noble, Eddie Izzard, Dave Gorman, Catherine Tate, Morcambe and Wise...ermmm...George Carlin, Chubby Brown, Ardal O'Hanlon (Brilliant stand-up)....and Billy Connolly...oh, and Ricky Gervais and Co (Extra's, The Office etc)...

Thanks for posting the list, brings back some happy memories!!

I used to like Cannon and Ball, remember them??

No problem, Jag.

Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball? I do indeed remember them.

As some others have pointed out - there were few American comedians voted on to the list.
Strange that Robin Williams didn't make it.

Alexei Sayle is one of my favourites, I have to say - as well as Tommy Cooper, Billy Connolly.

This would be a tuff list to put together. It is heavily subjected to taste.

SO! Let's add our own.:D

Jim Carrey, Tim Conway, Jackie Gleason and many mentioned above.

So you must remember only fools & Horses, Father Ted etc...and that bloke with the Bad cough who looks seriously like your avatar?? funny!!

Re Laurel and Hardy?? feckin' hilarious!!

Then there's Freddy Frinton and Arthur Askey...the Old School were brilliant....

an English poll and not one member of Monty Python in it, nor a member of the Goodies.
Peter Sellars? Harry Secombe? (and Spike Milligan who someone mentioned before)

unfknblvbl!!

Apart from Spike I wasn't too keen on any of the above...Python makes me cringe these Days although they were funny in the 70's....IMHO anyway.

What about John Cleese. Or even Jim owen, or an Aussie Carl Barron

Lol, it looks like all of them, almost. It might have been better to just put the top ten or three. Some of these I've never even heard of. Have to maybe check some of them out.

I've only seen this list just now and beating myself up that I have not seen it before.

Why the hell are Rik Mayall and Harry Enfield so far down the list? C4 usually makes a good job of these lists and shows but they seriously messed up on this one.

They got the positioning of Alan Carr right though so there is some redeeming quality to it...

Good list although I prefer USA comedians don't know why. Especially George Carlin is one of my all time favorites.

I could never get into American comedians and I don't really know why. I've seen some and don't find them funny at all.

Jim Carry and Robin Williams are (were) the only two that I can laugh at. I've never seen their stand-up stuff but the films they were in were pretty good. However Carrys recent stuff blows a little...
