how much of a disadvantage are these two types of shifters. I found a bike that i like for really cheap and the only thing i don't like about it are the non integrated shifters. should i just find a different bike or are the shifters alright?

Integrated shifters are probably more convenient for most riders, but the old ways still work fine. My commuter has down tube shifters and whereas I prefer my Campy Ergos on my other bike, the downtube ones cause no problems.
