his insensitivity to life is aimed at road users who go about their transit needs in a responsible vehiculer way ( bikes, cars etc) and is worthy of a note to his inbox.

Remember he is only 1 of 44 ward councillors for Toronto, the city is a mess , its city fathers have no answer to its budgetry problems and they persist in hoping for handouts from the provincial governement and a share of GST...

their real solution is to revitalise public transit options, lower car access to the city area with a zonal access fee and encourage more people to use public transit and ride bikes....

the example of Brasil's Curitiba urban renewal model could be a case worthy of emulation by Toronto to solve its ills and maybe save some obese cager's lives as well if they get out of their Hummers and onto a bike.

Curitiba, a Brazilian city of 1.5 million residents [1997], once suffered from the usual problems of rapid expansion and desperate shanty towns, but has now emerged as leader among sustainable cities. It has made sustainability and citizen participation the guiding principles of its daily life and the environment its top priority.

Urban Renewal - (concept links: brownfield || built form || development || downtown revitalization || infilling || intensification || mixed use || new urban || nimby || parking || redevelopment || transit || urban revitalization || urban sprawl)

Curitiba is zoned so that its high-rise residential and office buildings line five main axes of public transport: dedicated high-speed and high capacity surface bus routes built at a cost of $200,000 per kilometer rather than the $60 million per kilometer of a conventional subway system.
