Torpado was one of those small Italian frame builders that came out of the woodwork during the rush for steel lugged Italian road bikes in the late '70s and '80s. US importers had buyers for anything that was Italian, handled like a true road racer, was well made, and looked pretty. As a result many of these small Italian builders became very busy.
All the Torpados I've seen meet these requirements quite handily. If you're interested in making a nice old steel bike work for you then you may have met your match.
Here's a link to a Torpado catalog. The Bicycle Info Project :: Torpado Bicycles Brochure circa late 70's/early 80's Check out the name of the importer--Agrati-Garelli Corporation of America, Lexington, South Carolina. A perfect convergence of entrepreneurship, workmanship, and family values! These are cool bikes.

Are these new bikes? My husband has an old Torpado that someone gave him. It's a cheap junky gas-pipe frame, suitable for wind trainer use in the winter. I wasn't aware that the company still existed. -
I got one back in '86. It was my first racing bike when I was about 15. great bike. I've still got it. I turned it into a fixie.
