total newb question on frame geometry

ok so i'm just not sure in the difference between a frame where the top tube runs parallel to the ground like: http://www2.trekbikes.com/Bikes/Road/Performance_Road/Alpha_Aluminum/1000/index.php

and one where the toptube is slanted like:

I'm 5'3" (short) and 120 lbs. (skinny)...and i really just want a bike for training and getting to work on the nicer days....it all just seems so complicated!

There is no real difference unless the sloping TT helps you with needed standover clearance.Pay attention to effective toptube length.
