Suspect he didn't go all out? Why would you think that? Don't tell Gustav that..hahahaha. I'm guessing his max HR was 176 bpm and his 166 bpm avg (based on his data) would be 95% of HRmax. I'd say that is going all out. Definitely VO2max plus.tonyzackery said:Very interesting and impressive considering he finished 38th(!) with these numbers. Suspect he didn't go all out as I would have expected a higher HR average and max over such a short course.
I wouldn't give power/weight to much credence in a prologue. I've done 6.4 W/kg for 5 min and I'm neither a pro nor an elite amateur. Now, W/CdA is another story.mullerrj said:Suspect he didn't go all out? Why would you think that? Don't tell Gustav that..hahahaha. If you watched the Prologue live, or looked on the Power Profile Chart that Hunter provided, you would have noticed there were a couple of sharp turns where the riders had to slow down/coast to safely navigate. I'm sure that brought their average power down.
Also, if you computed Gustav's power to weight ratio you'll see it was 6.6 w/kg, which is "domestic pro" category instead of "world class" category (on the Allen/Coggan profile chart) where I would have expected it to be. But, as the article said..I'm sure Gustav is NOT in peak condition right now..nor would he probably want to be unless he wants to win the Tour of California.
Regardless, good data to see and chat about. Thanks for sharing Hunter.
Hey Hunter, any chance on seeing Fabian's power data? Or is that data proprietary?
Agree...pretty flat TT course...so power/weight is probably not a great metric. Hmm, not sure I saw that metric before, W/CdA. I guess you'd need an iBike Aero on the bike to see/measure that?Piotr said:I wouldn't give power/weight to much credence in a prologue. Hunter has provided an explanation that this TT was the first time they had data on Larsson actually giving it a full welly. Up to then they didn't have any really hard test data and made a (now with benefit of hindsight) fairly low original estimation of his FTP.bubsy said:Yeh l seen that too a 17% power increase in 1 wk yeh right, either his pm wasn't calibrated before one of those readings or he wasn't using the same pm or you can draw your own conclusion as to how he improved so rapidly, either way something is wack.
I don't know. Those pros must be lab tested at some time before racing commences in order to obtain baseline data. I can't believe these guys are basically just "shootin' in the dark" WRT to power figures they must utilize for training purposes, etc...400 to 470?! Come on...Alex Simmons said:Hunter has provided an explanation that this TT was the first time they had data on Larsson actually giving it a full welly. So rather than there being an actual increase in FTP, it's just that the original estimate was well understated.
Me's thinkin the same thing.tonyzackery said:I don't know. Those pros must be lab tested at some time before racing commences in order to obtain baseline data. That's hilarious! How could anyone be so silly to think that doping could have anything to do with an almost 20% increase in FTP in a week...acoggan said:What is even funnier than this thread is one on another forum where everyone is taking the power data as evidence of doping...
