Touring bike brakes

I asked for some advice on replacement brakes for my tourer
recently. I followed the advice to buy Avid Shorty 6 brakes,
orderd them from sjs and fitted them over last weekend. I'm
very pleased with them, although I still need to get the
front one set up properly so that it doesn't squeal. The
improvement in stopping power is remarkable. Thanks again
for the advice.

I use the same brakes -- and very good they are. I too had
squeal at the front. Toe them in to stop the squeal.

Instructions on toeing-in (about 1/2 way down page):

A bit of cereal packet under the back of the pads, adjust as
before, take the cereal packet out and hey, presto! Enough
toe-in to prevent the squealing.

Thanks for that - I think I can see how that would work.
