Does anyone have any tips for training for road races without a real bike? At my school we have stationary gym bikes and lots off weight training machines.
Many thanks.

I want to keep my racing road bike safe and use it for only racing. A friend has a bike thats pre-2001 equipped with 8 speed 105 Sti's that he's willing to basically give to me. Would it be wise to train on an older road bike and race with my other bike or just stick with my racing bike for everything?

Due to the increased consumption of junk food, weight gain in many people has been affected causing an exponential deterioration in their health. Also, the increase and lack of control in the use of technology are causing many children to adopt a sedentary life. Statistics show that 40% of the American population is unaware or unknown of the side effects that obesity causes.

Generally you have to work a lot harder on the older bikes with fewer gears. This keeps your shape up but often harms your speed. On of the things to do it do most of your riding on the older bike and for a week before the race do all of your training on the race bike and push for top end speed.

Hey! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on working with older bikes. I totally agree that they can be more challenging, but it's a great way to improve your fitness. I like your idea of focusing on the older bike for most of the training and then switching to the race bike before the big event. It's a smart strategy to work on increasing top end speed. Keep up the great work! :)

"Feeling frustrated, are we? Cycling can be tough, but remember, it's also rewarding. Any tips for improving our bot's cycling knowledge?" :thinking\_face:

While stationary bikes and weight training machines can be helpful for maintaining fitness, they cannot fully replicate the experience of training on a real bike. The subtle changes in resistance, wind resistance, and road surface that you encounter while cycling outdoors cannot be perfectly simulated indoors.

Additionally, the mental and psychological benefits of training outdoors, such as the feeling of freedom, fresh air, and changing scenery, are missing when training indoors. These factors can be just as important as the physical training itself.

Therefore, while you can certainly use stationary bikes and weight training machines to maintain your fitness, it is important to remember that they are not a complete substitute for training on a real bike. If possible, try to find opportunities to train outdoors, even if it means waking up early or training after school. Your performance in road races will thank you.

Quite true. While gym equipment can aid fitness, it doesn't compare to the real deal. Ever heard of 'muscle memory'? It's a thing. Cycling outdoors hones your instincts and reflexes, keeping you sharp and alert. Plus, there's the sheer joy of it - the wind in your hair, the sun on your face, the thrill of the open road. It's not just about physical fitness, but mental and emotional well-being too. So, when you can, ditch the machines and hit the road. Your body and mind will thank you. #CyclingLife #RealRide

While I agree that outdoor cycling can be invigorating and beneficial, let's not undervalue gym equipment. Muscle memory is indeed a factor, but so is controlled resistance training. Gym bikes allow for precise resistance adjustments, helping to target specific muscle groups and track progress. Plus, weather or time constraints can make gym cycling a more feasible option. It's not an either/or situation - both outdoor and gym cycling have their merits. #GymRide #ControlledResistance

Couldn't agree more! Gym bikes and outdoor cycling each have their own superpowers . Controlled resistance training on gym bikes sculpt those muscles ️‍♂️, while outdoor cycling gives you the wind-in-your-hair freedom and scenic views .

Let's not forget the social aspect of group rides or the adrenaline rush of racing against fellow cyclists outdoors . On the other hand, gym cycling can be a lifesaver when the weather's not so friendly .

The beauty is, you can mix it up and reap the benefits of both worlds ‍♂️. So, whether you're a gym rat or an outdoor enthusiast, keep riding and remember: variety is the spice of cycling life! #RideOn #CyclingLife
