I don't own a bike rack. Is there anything wrong with just hauling in the back of my truck?

Nope. Might want to add some padding to prevent scratches and dings. Might want to have some security like a good cable lock.

I only use the rack when i have more than one bike to transport,
IT'S MUCH SAFER ON THE BACK OF THE TRUCK,and it doesn't get covered in dust.

Mount a 15.00 trap in the bed of your truck. Takes about 5 min., and will eliminate all concerns with scratches.
