Transporting your bike to Europe for 2011

You simply take a Ryanair flight to a European city and pick up your bike at the other end from the Overlanders Truck and ride off for two weeks. Just a query:- am I missing something, or isn't this a bit of an environmental disaster in comparison with simply taking your bike where you want in Europe by train? It seems to combine a flight for the rider with a long truck journey for the bike (but I may have got it wrong...)...
