PORTLAND, Ore. -- Runner Galen Rupp broke the national
prep record in the 3,000 meters at a meet in Richmond,
British Columbia.
Rupp, who attended Portland's Central Catholic, also met his
goal of breaking Oregon track legend Steve Prefontaine's
longstanding state high school record of 8:08, set in 1969.
Rupp finished the Review Kajacks International 3,000
in 8:03.67.
His mark topped the national record of 8:05.8 set by John
Trautmann of Monroe-Woodbury (New York) High School at the
Penn Relays in 1986.
