So recently i've been looking to purchase a new bike. At my local bike store they sell only Trek branded bikes, and the one i was interested in is this model here: http://www.trekbikes.com/au/en/bikes/road/performance_race/1_series/1_2/ that is the trek 1.2

As i was browsing through an online selling site (kind of like ebay) i found this bike seen here http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/melbourne-region/bicycles/giant-defy-3-road-bike-/1032759425?mpch=ads
that bike is 2nd hand but in great condition. brand new specs are seen here: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bikes/model/defy.3/12008/57412/#overview

What i'm interested in is which bike am i better off with/which is better. The price between the 2 doesn't matter much. Am i better off buying the trek 1.2 brand new with a warranty or buying the giant defy 3 with no warranty?

Remind the seller that the manufacturers' (Giant and Shimano) warranties cannot be transferred to the second owner. Then offer $550 if everything checks out. The bike looks very clean.

If he won't go below $600, ask the Trek dealer if he can sweeten the deal with a little mark-down or some essential accessories. $300 for deal support and peace of mind is worth it.

I agree.

Just remember that if you decide on the Giant Defy. After you get it you may want to upgrade components. If that happens, the warranty would not matter.

I have a Defy and love it. Been a fantastic bike. But, I also like and have a Trek. really can't go wrong ether way. Go with the best deal you can get.

You should know that Giant actually makes most of Trek's frames, to Trek's specs. Although I'm not sure whether this is true of the 100 series alloy frames, which are made in Mainland China, not Taiwan.
