As I'd announced earlier, I traveled out of town to a high quality bike shop with excellent customer service.
The customer service was even better than I had expected. I had been to this shop before years and years ago, and their reputation for quality is certainly deserved.
The salesperson was very knowledgeable and basically went through a basic fitting right then and there, even prior to the test ride. They were willing to swap the stem and handlebar, which I pretty much expected.
The Trek was incredible. Yes, it's a $1,000+ bike, but it's worth every penny. It is SUPER fast, stiff (but not uncomfortable), and feels like quality through and through. I wasn't used to the shifting, so I can't fully evaluate, but the frame geometry felt dialed.
A very, very high quality bike from a super high quality shop.
The only thing is, I'm quite out of shape, and was only able to complete one test ride!
I will be back to evaluate more bikes. When you find a quality shop, SUPPORT THEM.
