48 year old starting to ride again after being off the bike for a few years.
Doing a century in March etc...Have herniated disc issues in upper back / shoulder that sometimes can be a problem. After a few recent 20 mile rides my neck has been killing me. I'm 6'2" 185 lbs and in reasonably good shape (visit the gym 3 times a week). I'm now riding a Trek 1100 that has a bad wheel that got me into the lbs to see the Trek 2.1 @ $1,300. Seems like it might be a good fit for me. I'm going to take it for a spin later in the week.
Any other bikes in that price range I should consider? Thanks for the input.

With herniated discs, I'd be really careful in choosing your next ride as 100 miles on a poorly fitting bike can be a punishing agony that might keep you off cycling for a while. You might be better off with a custom build...while it's not in the price range you're lookin for, check-out www.sevencycles.com for a look into what an exact fit means with a frame.
