I looked at a 2100 at my LBS last week for $1699.00 usd in Houston, Texas. it was a nice bike, and felt better to me than the Cannondale R900 and Lemond (model escapes me). I wanted to ride a Giant at another shop and ended up ridding a Felt that I fell in love with. I just bought a Felt F55 for $1709.00, $10 more than my LBS wanted for the much less equipped 2100. The Felt rode amazing, now I've just got to make it perform like it's made to. That's gonna take some time!

solelife said:Thanks, I also looked at the Lemond Reno, Specialized Allez Triple, but the Trek 1500 rode the best for me. But I saw that 2100 and thought, "I can spend a little more, and get more bang for the buck." I'll look into Felt as well.
solelife said:Hello,
I talked with my LBS and they had indicated that they had a TREK 2100 (2005) for $1329
Is this a good or decent deal?
Also, a TREK 1500 or TREK 2100?
Thanks

But, for your situation. You said the 1500 rode best for you and that is the most important thing. You are going to spend a lot of time on the bike and you want it to be as good feeling as possible. You can upgrade components and the 2100 has somewhat similar components to that of the 1500. But, with a better frame.
Now, don't get me wrong. I love my 1500. It responds very well to me and is durable and hasn't 'slowed' me down. I've been getting the results I want. It is a very very solid bike for the price!
Sometimes the best bike isn't the more expensive one.

Briguy said:I've enjoyed my Trek 2100 from day one. It is a great comfortable bike. I've upgraded the wheels and tires and that is about it. I paid $1599 for mine so the price you could have yours at is a steal IMO.
Briguy said:Go type in 2006 Trek 2100 and you will get links to Trek's website that have not been posted. Looks like the new model will be all black. Not sure I like it but the components look the same.

I'm not sure how excited I would be about buying a bike from a shop that "had no idea on what the components are." (and did not do the work necessary to find out for you). If all you're looking for is the absolute cheapest price to pick up a Trek 2100, that might be fine, but if you're looking for a shop to have a long term relationship with (maintainance, accessories, etc.), you may want to go back and talk to them a bit more before committing yourself to buying from there just to get a feel for how clueful they are.solelife said:Thanks alot....I think that I'll go back to my LBS and pick this up for a nice $1399.......I'll let you know how it feels...

As an aside, I ride a Trek 1500 (2004) and am very happy with it.
Good luck,

I'm not questioning your own review and comparison of the 2005 vs 2006 components at all. What I'm questioning is how a "reputable" bike shop (an authorized Trek dealer, presumably) didn't know the answer to your question, didn't look it up in a printed catalog or checked out Trek's web site and instead simply said "we have no idea what the components are."solelife said:They knew about the 2100 '05 they had in stock, but they did not know about the new 2100 '06. So I went to a website that had the new specs on the '06. Def. not tryin' to say that I'm an expert
Climbontario said:I've been in the same boat.. looking at buying a 1500 as I am just getting back into the sport after a 10 year absence, but there doesn't seem to be any '05s available. I started taking a look at the 2100s and decided that I really liked them. I stumbled upon a brand new '04 2100 which was much cheaper than the '05, and sports ultegra RD instead of the S105RD. I bought the '04, saved BIG money from what I would have spent on the '05. The only improvement on the '05 seems to be the wheels and tires. The money I saved will buy me even better tires and wheels than the stock items on the '05.
agentg said:I'm looking into getting the Trek 2100 also. Down at my LBS they have a Cannondale r700 for 999.99 with 105 on the front & Ultegra on the back, no pedals & very crappy seat & average handlebars. The 2100 is for 1249, has road pedals, decent seat and nice handlebars as well as better rims. The 2100 has the same front/rear deraileurs as the r700. But I like the ride of the 2100 a little bit more than the 2100 so I feel that and the components justify the $250 extra. I don't race or do anything like that but want a good road bike for doing club rides an other long rides.
