Quoted message said:I am looking to buy a second hand Trek 4300, this will be used for the
occasional commute to work, round trip approx 8 miles, trundling along the
local towpath in an attempt to get at least some exercise. At present I have
a no name mountain bike bought a few years ago but never really used.
Any comments appreciated to the suitability or otherwise of my choice.
For that sort of trip, to be honest a no-name mountain bike will be
suitable - a girl at work does that commute on a Raleigh Vixen. At a
quick glance though, the Trek would be good for light/medium trail use,
so if you think you might want to expand your horizons later on, then go
for it.
The Specialized Hardrock is also a competent bike at that level, but it
all comes down to circumstances - have you decided on the Trek because
you like it, or because a friend has one to sell to you? What sort of
price will you be paying? At the moment http://www.devercycles.co.uk/
are offering some pretty good deals on 2005 model bikes, that might be
worth paying that bit extra over S/H for.
