A representative from TREK recommended the trek 4300 for me (the 300 pounder looking for a bike)
they said it would support me without any problem. Can anyone give me their personal opinions on
this bike. I have read some unflattering remarks about TREK. Thanks John

I own a 4300. It is most definitely an entry-level MTB. I very quickly grew out of its capability
for MTBing. If you're going to get serious about off-road riding, get something a little further up
their line.

When I got the bike, I only weighed 120 pounds (6'1"). However, I did scream downhill on a rocky
slope at 25mph once. I hit a sharp stone, the bike came to a dead halt, and I fell hard. The impact
was strong enough to burst the front tube. I broke two spokes. The fork and rim were undamaged.

That's pretty strong for an entry-level bike.
