Trek 7000 Steerer Diameter

I would like to know what steerer tube diameter to get for the trek 7000.

We probably need to know how old it is first. The "7000" moniker used to be applied to a mountain bike model and is more recently applied to a hybrid model. In both cases they use quill stems. I would assume the older one is a 1" and the latter a 1.125" but i can't be sure. Measuring the quill diameter (just above where it sticks out of the top of the headset) will help.
