Does anyone have any opinions on the Trek Fitness bikes? I am considering a 7.2FX and was wondering if these were good bikes.

I ride a Trek 7100Fx. I've had mine for a bit over a year now. I use it for city riding & Sunday rides.
It's not the fastest or the lightest bike around, but it makes a great city bike. My bike runs 700 x 35 tyres. I could get thinner tyres, but the wider tyres come in handy when tackling the city streets & the many pot-holes & glass I find along the way.

Last year I went on a week-long cycle holiday on it & didn't need to SAG it once.

Earlier this year I borrowed a friends flat-bar roadbike for the day. I liked having that extra speed, and I'm considering buying a road/touring bike next year now.

But whatever happens, I'll always keep my "Trekie" as it has served me well.

I have a Trek 7500 FX and it is a great bike to start an exercise/training/ride schedule on/with. IMO.

Have been using a 7700 FX for commuting and townie riding over the last two years. Absolutely no complaints. Fast and nimble, yet rock solid in terms of handling. It won't do everything that a roadbike can in terms of speed, but that is about the only trade off.

I would also recommend the trek fx bikes-they are the same as the 7000 series hybrids except for a rigid fork. Less weight, more for fitness/speed.

I have michelin town & country 35 mm tires on my 7200, if I wanted more speed I'd go with 32mm or smaller. All in all I think these treks are a good value.
